I chose to do my TikTok for Midland University Admissions office. I came to this decision because as an admissions ambassador it is our job to help promote midland in anyway possible. Admissions main goal is to help admit students who are being recruited by Midland, or may be a good fit for what Midland has to offer. This TikTok features myself along with other admissions ambassadors, and the main goal is to promote our student living application. This application allows incoming freshman to connect online with potential roommates that may have similar interests. Since the app was down for a while and just got started back up with new features, this TikTok idea is a great and trendy way to get that app out there for our 2020 freshman class to view. Since I do not have any TikTok experience at all, my classmates were able to teach me the ways and create a really good promotional video for Midland University Admissions. It displays the on campus living, and cool midland clothing that students may be interested in as well.

Blog 4: Football Story

In this blog I am going to discuss what I’m most passionate about, which is football, and describe the video in which I took part in making and the image of a friend who played for a Division 2 playoff football team who happen to win the conference championship. The video portrays my friend, Kp, running a route and going through a regular practice. In the picture, Kp is holding a championship trophy, I attended the game and saw them win their conference championship. The video really relates to the picture, and gives a story. This story is that when playing football, you practice and train day in and day out, all for hopes of winning a championship for their team.
Football is a team sport, but not everybody from your team gets the same recognition. So it’s part of the game to advertise yourself and gain accolades so that coaches and managers from the next level gain interest from you. Of course you have to have the talent, but getting recognized is one of the hardest points in a young career. Furthermore, this video is an example of what football players make and post to gain attention from potential recruiters from higher levels. The video I posted does not show off to much talent or anything, but it’s more of a sneak peek of what’s to come of a hopeful career.

When starting your own business, it is smart to incorporate social media as a marketing platform. First, you would want to decide which platforms are appropriate for the business. To do that I have to know my audience. So say I have a clothing brand that appeals to teens and young adults. Many researchers say that Facebook is used mostly by older generations. This clothing brand would look to have a major emphasis on twitter and Instagram. However, once you get acquainted with your main audience, you have to expand your audience, which would mean make your product more desirable to a wider range of people. Tying it back to the clothing brand, it would be smart to involve a youth version of their brand or make ideas that would be appealing to an older generation. While starting up a business and hopefully gaining more and more popularity, it is important to build relationships as well. With clothing brands, some brands that have built a fan base and have steady income tend to branch out and do what is called a “collab” which is coin for collaboration, with other brands mixing the logo into a piece of clothing or even accessories, which gives you opportunity to branch out on products as well, and not only sell clothes. The more compelling the visuals and marketing of this stuff posted on your social media or any other brands social media would instantly give you more views, likes, comments and interactions. It is important to post visuals that catch the eye, because nobody will stop scrolling for some boring content. Quality of the post more important than quality, therefore posting compelling things is important but it is important to not over do it on certain platforms. I do not feel like you can have a great hold on every single platform in social media so it’s important you pick a few that you fit your brand like Instagram, twitter, and Facebook and just make sure those are attractive and presentable. To make sure our business would thrive in clothing, we’d respond to feedback given on posts, hold polls for what ideas or thought our followers would have on twitter, and Instagram for example. Any relevant social media conversation should be appropriate however, and interpret the brand of your company.

Audit Reflection

In class, me and my group did an audit on an organization and their presence in social media. During this time we sat down with a representative from an organization, that actually runs the social media networks for the organization. During the conversation I found it interesting that the organization is more active on Twitter and Facebook, than they are on Instagram and YouTube. Those two networks receive the most attention because the platform allows for a simpler way to interact with your followers. Social media is a way for people to interact and see what is going on in the the life of their followers or the people they are following. However, as an organization your job is to use social media as a type of advertisement. Therefore, your layout and content should be relevant and a good representation of what it is you’re trying to get across. Something I noticed through questions is that different generations see and use social media in different ways. That’s why it’s important that you’re brand is suited to attract the right age group that it is made for. With that, I learned which social media sites are used more frequently by organizations. Twitter and Facebook are simple and get more involvement from followers statistically, Facebook, because the older generation tend to use it more. Instagram is used quite frequently to, and for the younger generation even more than FaceBook. Now you even have platforms like Tik Tok and Snap chat. These two were not mentioned by our organization nor were they apart of the audit. The most surprising thing to me, was the lack of interest in using YouTube.I think YouTube is where many people to go watch videos and subscribe to channels they like. Other than that nothing else was a surprise to me. This assignment was a good idea to talk to a representative from an organization and see how they handled their social media platforms.

Why I Took MKT257

My name is Cashius Nichols, my friends call me Cash. I am a junior transfer student at Midland University, I’m originally from Los Angeles, California. I took social media for organizations because my academic adviser told me I needed the class for my major, Sports Management and Marketing, however I realize that it’s important for my potential future business to be aware of how to properly use social media. My favorite social media source is Twitter, and just learning more about those, and doing assignments involving those seems like a class that I would enjoy.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
